Meeting Myself: Three Small Questions You Can Ask Every Morning
Many of us can answer "how are you?" without thinking. "Fine, thanks, busy." And beneath that answer is a whole world nobody asked about, sometimes not even us.
Meeting myself doesn't need a special moment, a special place or special knowledge. It begins with a small decision to pause and listen. Not to analyze or fix, only to notice.
We can listen through the body: tension in the shoulders, heaviness in the chest, a breath that got stuck. Through Focusing, where we ask "what do I feel in my body right now?" and give the sensation time to express itself. Through quiet meditation. And through work with my inner parts, as I get to know which of them is speaking now.
What arises can be an emotion, an image, a memory or sudden relief. And sometimes simply quiet. All of it belongs. There is no right speed.
A short exercise: three morning questions
You can do it in bed before getting up, or with the first coffee. One minute is enough.
- What am I feeling now? Not what I "should" feel. What I truly feel. One word is enough.
- Where do I feel it in my body? Place a hand on the spot.
- What do I need today? Rest, closeness, quiet, courage, someone to listen.
- There's nothing to solve. Asking is already a meeting.
When you want to take these questions deeper, personal guidance can be a space where you listen without rushing. On Zoom or in person in the Algarve.
