Back to Source: Meeting Who I Am Beneath Everything I Learned to Be

Back to Source: Meeting Who I Am Beneath Everything I Learned to Be

There's an hour in the morning, or in the evening, when the world settles. We stand by a window, and for no reason we feel something soft inside. Something old. As if we'd remembered a place we knew long ago.

For me, that's "the source." Not a far-off place and not a lofty idea. It's the simple feeling of being me, without proving anything.

Along the way we learn to fit in. We put on masks: the strong one, the successful one, the one who needs nothing, the one who's always fine. They helped us survive, and we thank them. But sometimes the mask stays on even when we no longer need it, and it's hard to feel who we are.

There are also influences that came from the generations before us: pains, loyalties and fears that aren't necessarily ours, and hide our own inner voice.

"Back to Source" for me is

A return to my inner truth

A return to the heart and to love

A return to the creative life energy that exists in all of us

A return to myself without the masks

A return to myself without the intergenerational influences that get in the way of feeling who I am

For each person, the source looks different. There is no single right way.

A short meditation: three minutes of returning

  1. Sit or lie down, and place a hand on your heart.
  2. Take a slow breath, and with the exhale, let your shoulders soften.
  3. Imagine setting down beside you, one by one, the masks: the successful one, the strong one, the pleaser.
  4. Ask inwardly: "Who remains when I have nothing to prove?"
  5. Stay with the feeling, even if it's small. You can say: "I'm here."
  6. Before you open your eyes, take a last breath and let it reach your heart.

If the meditation touched you and you'd like to take it a step further, you can book an intro chat.
